We established the Velasco Education Fund a year ago, to honor the memory and work of Juan Velasco in Puerto Palomas. In our first year, we awarded four students with funding to study at the university level. Soon, we will be awarding two more, four-year scholarships to students who plan to begin their university or trade school studies in the Fall of 2026.
As the four scholarship recipients of the Velasco Education Fund (VEF) approach the end of their first year of university study, they express heartfelt words of gratitude. When asked about some of their experiences during these two semesters, each responded with some beautiful comments and stories.

I am really enjoying. I learn something new every day, and that motivates me a great deal. One of the things that has pleased and surprised me the most is the sheer amount of equipment and technology available for learning; you truly realize that there are so many tools to help us better prepare for the future.🫶 In my fundamentals class, this week’s lesson focused on proper bed-making—something that, surprisingly, can be of immense help to our patients. I loved every bit of it!✨️👌 I am deeply grateful for the support I receive through my scholarship, as it is a tremendous help that allows me to continue my studies and take full advantage of all these learning opportunities.❤️✨️
Me está gustando mucho la universidad. Cada día aprendo algo nuevo y eso me motiva bastante. Una de las cosas que más me ha gustado y sorprendido es la cantidad de equipo y tecnología que hay para aprender; realmente te das cuenta de que hay muchas herramientas que ayudan a prepararnos mejor para el futuro.🫶 En mi clase de fundamentos, la lección de la semana fue el correcto tendido de cama que de forma sorprendente puede ayudar muchisimo a nuestro paciente. Me encanto todo✨️👌Agradezco mucho el apoyo que recibo con la beca, ya que es una gran ayuda para poder seguir estudiando y aprovechar todas estas oportunidades de aprendizaje.❤️✨️

Honestly, I’m not sure how to go about writing this—I only know that I need to express my gratitude to everyone who has given me the opportunity to pursue the degree of my dreams. I don’t know where to begin: should I talk about the wonderful friendships I’ve made? Should I mention how great the university facilities are—the sports courts, the classrooms, the cafeterias? Or should I express my amazement at the fascinating classes I’m taking? Each one sparks my curiosity and presents a challenge that is both fun and stimulating. But anyway, so as not to make this too long, I’ll simply close by offering my most heartfelt THANK YOU for giving me this opportunity to study what I truly love. Sincerely, Santiago
Nose como hacer este texto sinceramente, solo se que debo expresar mi gratitud a todas las personas que me han dado la oportunidad de estar estudiando la carrera de mis sueños, nose por dónde empezar, si hablar de las grandes amistades que he hecho, si hablar de lo geniales que son las instalaciones de la universidad (las canchas, los salones, las cafeterias), o si expresar mi asombro por las clases tan interesantes que curso, ya que me generan mucha intriga cada una de mis clases y suponen un reto muy divertido y desafiante, pero bueno para no hacer el texto tan largo termino por dar mi más sentido GRACIAS por darme esta oportunidad de estar estudiando lo que a mí me gusta.
